What is memory?

Memory:Memory is the space or area where data and program are stored. Memory is measured in bytes.
There are two types of memory.
1) Primary memory
2) Secondary memory

Primary memory: It is the main memory of the computer system which is directly connected to the CPU.
There are two types of primary memory.
i) RAM (Random Access Memory): The data presents in RAM can be read or changed. When the computer is switched off, the contents of RAM are lost so RAM is called volatile.
ii) ROM (Read Only Memory): The contents of ROM is permanently recorded, which can only be read. It has not access to user. It is unchangeable. The contents of  ROM is written by manufacturing of a computer so it is called non-volatile.

Secondary Memory: It is an area to store the data and program.but are not directly connected to the CPU.
Example: hard disk, floppy disk, compact disk, etc.
Measurement of memory:
4 Bits             =         1 Nibble
8 Bits             =         1 Byte
1024 Bytes    =         1 Kilo Byte (KB)
1024 KB       =         1 Mega Byte (MB)
1024 MB      =         1 Gigabyte (GB)
1024 GB       =         1 Terabyte (TB)
